Description

New title: Mesenchymal stem cell based regenerative medicine technologies for treatment of radiation induced lesions
Despite current treatments, patients continue to suffer from cutaneous radiation syndrome (CRS) necessitating exploration and implementation of new technologies. Regenerative medicine, by way of adult mesenchymal stem/stromal cell therapy (MSCT), provides novel solutions, which help to improve patients’ quality of life. The main aim of the project is to disseminate and improve adult MSCT, tissue engineering and biobanking technology for treatment of CRS, including experimental research, pre- and clinical studies, in purview of regulatory guidance.

Objectives

Develop adult mesenchymal stem/stromal cell therapy (MSCT), optionally in combination with artificial tissue engineering, to treat cutaneous radiation syndrome (CRS), including experimental research, pre- and clinical studies, in purview of tissue banking and regulatory guidance

Specific Objectives

Harmonise regulatory framework of MSCT for treatment of CRS

Deliver an integrated knowledge exchange pathway for research and methods of MSCT

Evaluate the efficacy of different MSCT protocols depending on radiation lesion characteristics and confounding factors

Integrate MSCT with tissue engineering and biobanking to promote the use of regenerative medicine for treatment of CRS

Produce recommendations that create regenerative medicine solutions to the challenges of existing and available methods of treatment of CRS

Establish MSCT network of institutions engaged in regenerative medicine for treatment of CRS

Disseminate knowledge and best practices of MSCT in regenerative medicine for treatment of CRS
