Learning from Buddhist Rituals
Buddhist meditation has become associated with silent sitting practice, but historically much of it took the form of group rituals and related prayers. This course will examine some of these rituals considering ways of applying—living—the unique insights and “practice” opportunities they represent. The discussion should be accessible and hopefully relevant to anyone, regardless of background and religious/secular orientation.
Dates: Weekly from September 24 through December 24
Time: Wednesday evenings on Zoom, 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Pacific Time.

Friday Night Meditation & Avatamsaka Sutra
Classes resume September 27th, 2024.
Time: Fridays 7:30-9 p.m.

The class will examine the practices and path set forth by the Avatamsaka Sutra, or Flower Ornament Sutra, which describes a cosmos of infinite realms upon realms, mutually containing one another. The text touches on various topics such as the Bodhisattva path, the interpenetration of phenomena (dharmas), the visionary powers of meditation and the equality of things in emptiness.
