Greetings from the APMP Chairperson: 2025 GA

Dear APMP colleagues and friends,

As we reflect on another year of progress,
I am reminded of an ancient proverb that resonates deeply with our community: "The highest good is like water
(上善若水)."
Water gives life to all things effortlessly.

It moves quietly, yet its presence transforms everything it touches. It flows from the highest peaks to the lowest valleys, seeking those who need it most.

This timeless wisdom captures the spirit of APMP perfectly. For nearly five decades, APMP has acted like a great river system, carrying knowledge, expertise, and support across the Asia-Pacific region. Its current has reached economies at every stage of development, nurturing growth and enabling metrology to flourish – just as the Nile River sustained countless civilizations over millennia.

History reminds us that no individual, institute, or nation thrives alone. Similar to how fertile land allows villages to flourish, it takes a vibrant community like APMP to cultivate scientific excellence and shared prosperity. The success of KRISS stands as living proof of this fact. When KRISS first joined APMP, it was a young and developing NMI, eager to learn from the collective expertise of this community. Through the steady flow of guidance, collaboration, and encouragement from APMP over the years, KRISS has grown into a vibrant source of knowledge in its own right – now contributing to that river network and helping other economies develop their own metrological capabilities. For example, KRISS is fostering the next generation of metrologists and PhDs through the University of Science and Technology (UST).

This is the power of APMP: like water, it gives without diminishing, offering support in many forms according to the needs of each economy. As we look ahead, I envision this flow of knowledge continuing – carrying the essence of APMP’s legacy and renewing the spirit of collaboration that has defined our journey so far.

In this spirit, we will gather for the APMP General Assembly in Incheon, Korea, from 21 to 28 November 2025. We return to a place of new beginnings to celebrate our community and reaffirm our shared mission: to let our knowledge and support flow freely in a virtuous cycle of cooperation and discovery that will empower future generations of metrologists.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Hyun-Min Park

APMP Chairperson
