The National Metrology Institute of Malaysia (NMIM), SIRIM Berhad, in collaboration with the APMP Climate Change and Clean Air Focus Group (CCCAFG) and the TCQM Gas Analysis Sub-Committee, had the honour of hosting the 2025 Workshop of APMP/Focus Group on Climate Change and Clean Air and 22nd APMP/TCQM Gas Analysis Sub-committee meeting. The workshop, held from 11 to 13 August 2025 at the Holiday Inn Sepang Hotel, Malaysia, served as a significant platform for advancing international collaboration and innovation in gas analysis and climate initiatives.
The objective of the annual workshop is to strengthen international collaboration, review comparison studies, and share expertise in gas measurements, climate change, and clean air. It provides participants with exposure to the latest advancements in gas analysis technology, valuable insights from industry leaders, and opportunities to exchange ideas, which can enhance capabilities, address industry gaps, and guide strategic planning for the future.

Dr. Faridah Hussain, Chief Metrologist of NMIM; Dr. Hong Lin, Chair of CCCA; and Dr. Wu Hai, Chair of TCQM GASC, delivered the welcoming and opening addresses. The workshop brought together 94 participants, including representatives from 23 leading NMIs and international organizations, 17 participants from NMIM, 32 local delegates, and 22 vendor representatives from laboratories, gas producers, universities, and the research institute.
In addition to presentations by experts and scientists from national metrology institutes, the workshop featured key highlights such as invited presentations from leading international and local organizations, including BIPM, NIST (USA), CITEPA (France), PTB (Germany), PETRONAS, the University of Malaya, and the National University of Malaysia. These sessions provided valuable insights into advancing measurement science and supporting global climate change mitigation efforts.
A planned intercomparison study was also discussed, aimed at strengthening regional collaboration and promoting the harmonization of gas and greenhouse gas measurement capabilities.
The workshop concluded with technical visits to NMIM’s Gas Laboratories and the Air Products Malaysia facility, offering participants practical exposure to state-of-the-art measurement infrastructure and industrial applications. Overall, the event significantly enhanced regional measurement capabilities, deepened international cooperation, and supported the development of accurate and reliable carbon emission measurements for the region and beyond.
