Standards and Calibration Laboratory Relocation in 2025
News from Member - SCL / Hong Kong, China

The Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) is proud to announce the successful completion of its relocation to the Tseung Kwan O Government Offices, effective September 1, 2025. As the official custodian of Hong Kong, China’s physical measurement standards, this strategic move marks a significant milestone in SCL’s ongoing commitment to delivering world-class calibration and measurement services to the international community.

Following nearly a decade of planning, the relocation was successfully executed through a year-long effort led by SCL’s engineers, technicians, and support staff. The transition involved the design and upgrade of critical laboratory infrastructure including electrical systems, chilled water supply, and compressed air, alongside the transportation of highly sensitive instruments that underpin Hong Kong’s primary measurement standards. Each instrument was custom-crated, transported under controlled conditions, and meticulously recalibrated upon arrival to ensure performance.

The new facility spans three floors and houses 40 laboratory rooms, each engineered with stringent environmental controls to uphold the highest standards of measurement accuracy and reproducibility. New laboratories will be launched in phases, with enhanced capabilities designed to support SCL’s core functions and expand its service offerings.

This state-of-the-art infrastructure reinforces SCL’s measurement traceability to the International System of Units and positions the laboratory to meet the growing demand for precision calibration services across a broad spectrum of industries and global markets.
