2025 Joint Workshop of APMP CCCA FG and TCQM
Gas Analysis Sub-Committee Successfully Held in Sepang, Malaysia
The joint workshop of the APMP Climate Change and Clean Air Focus Group (CCCCA FG) and the TCQM Gas Analysis Sub-Committee was held successfully in Sepang, Malaysia, from 11 to 13 August 2025.
The event brought together scientists and experts from national metrology institutes across multiple countries and regions. In-person participants included representatives from China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Uzbekistan and other countries/regions; Online participants joined from Australia, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Russia, Vietnam and more. During the event, delegates reported on recent achievements in three key areas: climate science, emission measurement, and gas analysis.

In addition, the workshop featured invited presentations from international organizations and institutions, including the International Organization for Standardization(ISO), the Center on Atmospheric Pollution and Greenhouse Gases (CITEPA, France), the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB, Germany), the University of Malaya, and the National University of Malaysia. These presentations offered valuable insights and shared practical experiences, which contribute to advancing measurement science and technology in support of climate change mitigation.
A key component of the workshop was the discussion on a planned intercomparison study—the primary aim of which is to further strengthen regional and international cooperation, while promoting the harmonization of measurement capabilities for gases and greenhouse gases.
Following the workshop, participants conducted technical visits to the Gas Laboratories and Chemical Group of NMIM (National Metrology Institute of Malaysia), as well as the gas production facility of Air Products Malaysia. These on-site visits offered a practical perspective on the current status of measurement infrastructure and its industrial application scenarios.
Overall, the workshop made significant contributions to strengthening measurement capabilities and enhancing international partnerships. It also served as a valuable platform for exchanging approaches and best practices—ultimately supporting the achievement of accurate, reliable climate science measurement in the region and beyond.
