APMP-BIPM Time scale workshop 2024

APMP and BIPM together conducted two-day workshop Nov 23rd and Nov 24th on "UTC(k) Timescale Generation and GNSS Time Transfer" at NPLI - New Delhi before the APMP GE in November 2024. This workshop is initiated by APMP TCTF chair Dr. Kazumoto Hosaka, convened by Dr. Bharath Vattikonda from NPLI, supported by APMP TCI Initiative and the APMP DEC. In 2018, the BIPM CBKT organized a training focused on GNSS time transfer and its calibration. It was held at BIPM, and only 5 of the 21 APMP laboratories from member countries participating in Circular T were able to participate the training course. Ever since 2018 there has been a huge gap in organizing such a training workshop/ school to fulfil the knowledge gaps in the time and frequency community in APMP region.

The workshop has an overwhelming response from 31 participants (13 online and 18 in-person) from 19 countries Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Kenya, Uzbekistan, Philippines, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Taiwan & India.
The two days tutorials were broadly divided into 4 sessions which also includes the latest tools developed under CBKT project of BIPM,
1. GNSS based time transfer and calibration
2. Clock data analysis & Timescale generation
3. Simulation of Time scale Generation and Steering
4. NTP, PTP and White Rabbit time transfer technologies
Followed by Time & Frequency lab visit of NPLI.
Instructors include Director BIPM Time department Patrizia Tavell, Micheal Wouters from NMIA, Calvin Lin from Taiwan, Yuko Hanado Ex- NICT Japan, Paul Eric Pottie from LNE-SYRTE France, Bharath Vattikonda and Ashish Agarwal from NPLI.
