Visual Browser
Browse the ICTV virus taxonomy using an interactive, visual display. The new Search feature will allow you to select a taxon in the current or past taxonomies. If you click "View" the tree will automatically expand to show you the taxon.
- Use the release dropdown in the top left to choose the taxonomy release you want to visualize.
- Use the font size-slider to increase or decrease the size of text.
- Use the zoom slider to zoom in or out of the display.
- Additionally, use the mouse wheel or trackpad to zoom in or out when the mouse cursor is inside the display area.
- Use the export button to download either a PNG, SVG, or PDF export of the expanded taxa.
- Exports will save to your computer's download folder.
- Use the search bar to search for a specific taxon name.
- When clicking "view" on the search result, the browser will automatically expand to the searched taxon.
- Click on a taxon name to expand or collapse a taxonomic lineage.
- Pop-up boxes are displayed when hovering your cursor over a name. These provide basic information about each taxon, and a link to the taxon's history page.
- Click on a genus or subgenus name to display the species classified into that taxon.
- Click and hold to move the display around the screen.
- If the number of taxa exceeds the available space in the window, you can use the mouse or trackpad to scroll the list up and down.
- If there are over 50 taxa in a rank, a "more" button will appear at the top and bottom, allowing users to paginate through additional taxa.
