The following charts document the previous conversions and consolidations that were made to unify most usages of the various international highway infoboxes into {{Infobox road }} (IR). As of February 2012, only one template, {{infobox Australian road }}, has not been consolidated, although most of its functions have been supported by IR. Future discussion may or may not lead to any change of that situation.
Related templates
[edit ]In addition, {{infobox road small }} (IRS) was developed which merged together three other templates: {{ibus }}, {{shban }}, and {{usban }} for business routes of Interstate, state and US Highways in the US. In addition, it now handles anything handled by its full-fledged sibling in condensed form.
For junctions and interchanges, {{infobox road junction }} (IRJ) handles situations previously handled by {{Malaysian expressway interchange }}, {{infobox Flyovers }}, and {{Info Japan Interchange }}.
IR, IRS and IRJ all use the same color-coding subtemplates to produce a consistent look for a country's roadway infoboxes. For US-specific system articles and lists, a fourth template, {{infobox state highway system }} also uses the same color subtemplate core. A future global analog may be developed.

US state templates previously consolidated
[edit ]Previous to 2010, the US had multiple infobox templates. Some of these were merged together back in the 2006–07 timeframe to create {{infobox road }} initially. Most of these were state-specific, and some were created to address unique situations in those states, like multi-segmented highways. With the recoding to convert infobox road to use {{infobox }}, these last infoboxes were merged into the main one. At that point, any remaining state-specific infoboxes were shell templates that called the main one, and they were deleted.
