WHAT IS MEANT BY MULTIRESOLUTION WAVELET ANALYSIS

Please don't shout, sign your talk contributions and use some punctuation. As the word says, something is analysed using wavelets, and as is the nature of wavelets, they come in different scales, so the analysis is performed on different scales or resolutions. That the process gave its name to the tool used is something that history has to answer for.--LutzL (talk) 11:50, 23 July 2010 (UTC) [reply ]

Definition : unclear line about the space resolution

I would have a couple of questions about this assertion : "for k > l {\displaystyle k>l} l}"> the space resolution 2 l {\displaystyle 2^{l}} {\displaystyle 2^{l}} of the l {\displaystyle l} {\displaystyle l}-th subspace is higher than the resolution 2 k {\displaystyle 2^{k}} {\displaystyle 2^{k}} of the k {\displaystyle k} {\displaystyle k}-th subspace"

  • As x 2 x {\displaystyle x\mapsto 2^{x}} {\displaystyle x\mapsto 2^{x}} is an increasing function, if k > l {\displaystyle k>l} l}">, how can be 2 k < 2 l {\displaystyle 2^{k}<2^{l}} {\displaystyle 2^{k}<2^{l}}? Is it just a typo, or did I miss some crucial element?
  • In a more general way, how is defined the space resolution? Is the space resolution of V k {\displaystyle V_{k}} {\displaystyle V_{k}} always equal to 2 k {\displaystyle 2^{k}} {\displaystyle 2^{k}}?
