Renew your soul - Curei's Floating Gallery - Lacy Muircastle reporting

Curei’s Floating Gallery - Grand Opening this weekend Sat., Feb., 24th & Sun., Feb. 25th.
Second Life is amongst other things a platform for individuals to set their creativity free.Curei’s Floating Gallery is just that, creativity set free…
"Curei's Floating Gallery" is a dream that has come to fruition. It floats high above Inspiration Island one of Second Life’s longest running sims.
So who is Curei?"Curei" (pronounced: CURE-ee-eye) Is a photojournalist in real life.“Or, in what is left of photojournalism in the retreating form of current "hard copy" publishing,” she said.
She looked around at many of the galleries in SL and discovered that there was no shortage of them.Curei found that some of the art and photography was original and very creative. However, it seemed to her that most of the works were still being displayed within the "other world" concept of pictures on a wall.
She wanted something different and to share her soul with Second Life, to reach for new vistas of creation and display. The end result is exciting. She has tapped into the talents and capabilities of other artists such as Gee (GeeJAnn Blackadder) who is a sculptor. It is far from being all about Curei, she said, “often the best that can be done is not going to be all about me, but about a number of us together, working as a great creative team.”
Curei’s dream was made possible by many SL residents, and she would like to thank them as without them her creation would not have seen the light of day.Pluto Fairey, of The Forest, gifted the basic "floater" as a beginning, and Curei said it was most certainly a wonderful place to start.
Wisdomseeker, the founder and director of the Inspiration Island sim, and the rest of the incredible leadership of the island gave them an exceptional home in their sky.
So many residents, from all aspects of SL, helped get the gallery up and floating. There was Francisco Koolhoven, the tech expert of Inspiration Island, Wordsmith Jarvinen, the Chancellor of Oxbridge University, and Tooyaa from Inspiration Island. And there was Ari, and Par, Catseye Tennen, Khamon Fate, and the hosting volunteers, and many others.
The team from Curei’s Floating Gallery hope that everyone will enjoy the fact that there will be much to see. There is the Central Plaza area, the little model sailboats, a lovely Meditation Alcove, a magnificent one-of-a-kind spiral fountain, strolling peacocks, the Little Jazz Corner, as well as a relaxing music stream. And who knows what else you might discover.
Speaking of discovering things, a mysterious object has been hidden somewhere on the floater. It is an interesting surprise.Come and see if you can find it?Hint:It’s a thing, and it has but one moving part.If you find it, please don't tell anyone what it is and don't tell them where they can find it. Let them explore and find it for themselves.
This is a place to renew one's soul, a place for relaxation and enjoyment. You are invited to join in the adventure of discovery and to return to as often as you wish.

If you've been procrastinating about entering, then the time is nigh as the competition closes in just over two weeks.
To remind you:
The theme of the SLartist@UWA Machinima Challenge (L350,000ドル prize pool) is 'ART OF THE ARTISTS.' We are trying to encourage connections and collaborations between 3D artists and machinima makers. Any artworks that sit on the UWA Sims in Second Life, and these include artworks created when the sims themselves were created in 2009 can be selected to feature in your machinima. You may choose individual artworks OR a collection of artworks around which to weave a story. The artwork(s) need to be a relatively significant part of the story, and not merely something glimpsed in passing.
More information can be found here: http://uwainsl.blogspot.co.za/2017/12/slartistuwa-machinima-challenge-tutsy.html
CLOSING DATE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS 31 DEC 2017.
All entries can be seen at SLartist . https://www.slartist.com/browse-slartist-at-uwa-videos-1-date.html

Art and SLife - Lacy Muircastle reporting....
The art community within Second Life is as diverse as its
real world counterparts. Is art an
embellishment or ornament of life though?
I read that “psychological investigations have revealed that
art is the supreme centre of biological and social individual processes in
society, that it is a method for finding an equilibrium between man and his
world, in the most critical and important stages of his life.” This view therefore completely refutes the
approach that states that art is purely an ornament. Art is at the leading edge
of the consciousness of any community. The possibilities of the future, for art
as well as for life, are inscrutable and unpredictable and that holds very true
for Second Life as much as it does for real life.
Meet Luke N Fortacos, a gallery owner and artist in SL. He hails from Northern California and lives relatively close to Linden Labs. His curiosity was piqued as to what they did some three years ago. At the time he was playing another online 3D game with a friend who had started playing Second Life and who in turn introduced him to SL. His initial foray into our virtual world did not gel with him.
Then in RL he hurt his back and was laid up for over a
month. With time to kill he decided to
try again. A couple of ladies helped him
with the look of his avatar and he began taking classes at Builders brewery and
Caledon Oxbridge.
He spent some time building a house and some other bit and
pieces, but he desperately wanted to combine mesh with prims, which led to
Blender and Blender Classes. He said “I
could not understand what is was, but everyone spoke of it "like
Photoshop"."
Luke also took photography classes at Caledon Oxbridge and
with Kajia Chrome, at Blue Nile. He tried to get around the Photo shop expense
with freebies like IPiccy, Pixelator and Gimp.
He says they helped but to get where he wanted to be he had to subscribe
to the Adobe Creative Cloud. He said “its
been terrific.....10ドル per month, includes a file management program called
Bridge that might be worth the 10ドル alone.”
I went on to ask him why he wanted to own galleries in SL. He said “I started my first gallery at Xaara
to get feedback on my art - what I was doing. It is still my main objective.
Artists in SL, where I opened my 2nd gallery, I wanted to do the same thing
with different kind of art. Xaara is a BDSM sim with several galleries
representing a wide variety of artists.
The owners of the sim wanted the art to keep to the theme. Artists in SL also represents many artists,
some of which also do Adult, but I wanted to do like many others and explore portraits
and SL Life pictures.”
He added that the galleries aren't going to make him rich, but
they can be self-sustaining. He enjoys
owning them as a means to obtain feedback and from the people he meets.
Luke has a Gallery at SSC Coffeehouse, where he displays his
own and work by other artists from Xaara. The Coffeehouse is also at a
"Lifestyle" type resort and he has brought over Elbereth Exonar,
HisOne Desire and Carley Noonan to display their art too. He plans to expand
the gallery throughout the coffee house, he said “it’s going to be a very
exciting art venue when it is finished.”
His mission is for the SL art community and those that support it to get to know his brand ‘L Fortacos’ as a place to get art for your SL Home or Club. He said “I believe as art improves, and it is really good these days, more customers will buy more SL art for their homes or Clubs. Rather than using RL imports, which is cheating and more than likely a copyright violation. For instance, part of the draw of a place like Fogbound are the pictures of patrons taken by Serendipity Dyrssen. I would like to see other clubs at SL Artwork showcasing unique styles of art. Art that showcases all that SL has to offer.”

Leonard
Cohen, now his is a name that evokes all sorts of feelings doesn't it? I mean his iconic song Hallelujah for instance; doesn't it just speak to you on any number of levels?
For
those of you who may not know who Leonard Cohen is, he is a Canadian singer-songwriter,
musician, poet, and novelist. His work often explores religion, isolation,
sexuality, and interpersonal relationships.
So what
does Leonard Cohen have to do with Second Life?
