Clothing for small men

A long time ago I posted about the travails of finding clothing that would fit me. The change of seasons always brings the question, "do I have enough good clothes to wear", which inevitably leads to another round of me being disgruntled about the experience of shopping. Julie dug up some links that have some pretty good ideas for clothing for small men. Just in case there are any more of you out there feeling aggravated.

Clothing shopping is a travail for all of us except the 5% (back of the envelope estimate) who actually fit the "sizes" produced by the mass market clothing industry. For myself, I fall into this weird gray zone where I am just slightly taller than what the clothing industry thinks "normal" is, but considerably shorter and smaller than what seems to be the low end for Big & Tall. I do okay with shirts, but pants? Pants are a nightmare. Ah, to be stinking rich and be able to afford http://www.englishcut.com/

Rafial, I can't agree more. I just clicked into the comments to say basically the same thing - that as far as clothing goes, smaller/shorter people and larger/taller people are in a similar boat.

BTW I've had great success ordering long rise pants from
Eddie Bauer - they don't carry them in the stores but returns are easy so there's little risk in ordering online and trying them on at home.

And just in case this is some kind of comfort, Ted, I really wish I could fit into a Mazda Miata. But it's not meant to be.

Guys

You should check out this store located in CA. www.jimmyaus.com They are just about to open a new store in Beverly Hills, they clothe loads of Hollywood and really know what they are talking about.

They know the problems facing short men when purchasing clothes that fit.

Dear Ted & All,

I found your comments and completely understand- My husband is 5'6" and I got fed up with trying to find him clothes that fit properly without alteration. It was particularly hard to find what Ted referred to as "good clothes"- stylish, quality, etc.
For what it's worth, we actually started an online store for guys under 5'9" and carry business and casual wear, brand names and current styles. You can find us at <a href="http://www.ForTheFit.com>www.forthefit.com</a>
(I'm sorry to drop a plug for my business- but the whole point of starting it was to help guys with issues similar to my husband.)

Thanks and hope the suggestion helps,
C. Bova

This is really interesting to read the comments. My sweetheart is 5'5" with a 33" waist. He can get a 34 waist but because he has a shorter waist-to-crotch area, his crotches are always to long and baggy. Actually, boys' jeans fit him pretty well but he doesn't want to be shopping in the boys' dept., he's over 50! Hunting clothing doesn't really come in his size either. Thank you for your web site. I feel your pain! I can't understand why stores like Macy's and Gap often don't carry the smaller men's sizes. Usually, when I ask a sales rep, they say that the small sizes are the first to sell. Seems to me they'd do good business by stocking up on them! I see racks and racks of L's and XL's on clearance!
