Mikael Colville - Andersen: Don’t Wear a Bike Helmet

Mikael Colville-Andersen is a Danish filmmaker, screenwriter, and photographer who took a long hard look at the numbers behind bicycle safety in urban environments. He came to an unlikely conclusion: don’t wear a bike helmet.

The numbers say you’re actually more likely to get in a bicycle accident when wearing a helmet. Colville-Anderson argues that bicycle safety campaigns should focus more on getting more people out of cars and onto bikes, and creating safe spaces to cycle.

Check out his TED talk for the full details of how he came to his controversial conclusion.
