ABSTRACT
First designation of biuret as a birefringence-active moiety enabled construction of two cyanuric acid assemblies. [H5C2N3O2][H3C3N3O3]·xH2O achieves giant birefringence (0.403) with short UV cutoff edge (208 nm), resolving the inherent trade-off between optical anisotropy and bandgap.

By hydroxyl introduced hydrogen bond reconstruction, a centrosymmetric to non-centrosymmetric structural transformation has been achieved from CN3H6C6H5SO3 to CN3H6C6H4SO3(OH), which results in the realization of strong second harmonic generation.
