Sigma 2 -- Overview

Soon after the Atlas was installed, there was interest in providing some time-sharing facilities on Atlas. Mike Baylis did an initial survey of potential hardware and architecture. The best approach was to have a front-end system with independent access to the Atlas Data Products disc. The Sigma 2 was chosen to perform the task and most of the development was done by John Baldwin and Eric Thomas.
