An innovative non-profit collaborative

Celebrating 25 years of sustainable scholarly communications.

BioOne was founded in 1999 by both library and publisher interests to address the inequities posed by commercial journal publishing. A quarter century later, BioOne remains committed to meeting library, publisher, and researcher needs through a growing portfolio of products and services.

BioOneComplete

BioOne Complete, BioOne’s flagship product, is a database of over 200 subscribed and open access titles in the biological, ecological, and environmental sciences. In 2026, 71 participating titles from 54 publishers will be offered as part of a Subscribe to Open pilot.

BioOne Complete provides libraries with cost-effective access to high-quality, curated research and independent society publishers with a dynamic, community-based platform and global distribution. BioOne Complete’s unique business model reinvests precious library funds in scientific communication, with over 78ドル million returned to BioOne society publishers to date.

The National Shellfisheries Association has successfully partnered with BioOne for 15 years. This collaboration has provided the Journal of Shellfish Research with extended exposure, and has been a substantial financial asset for the Association. We look forward to many years of future efforts together.

From the consortial perspective, working with BioOne has been amazing. Our sales manager, Chelsea, is responsive, transparent, and a joy to work with. BioOne makes it clear that their top priority is to offer the fairest pricing that they can provide to promote the advancement of scholarship and science. Libraries can be assured that they are working with a vendor with their best interests at heart.

The BioOne Complete Archive was a great option for us. We were able to simplify our holdings and fill in gaps left in our collection by changing subscription models, and we find that we get good use of the BioOne backfile.
