Square bullet Activities

  • Research the history of the Iditarod Trail before the race.
  • Have students draw a huge map of Alaska, filling in mountain ranges, rivers, etc.
  • Sketch the Iditarod Trail.
  • Have each student pick a musher and follow his team, moving a marker along the Iditarod Trail as daily reports come in over the radio.
  • Discuss physical changes in the landscape as the mushers pass through; discuss effects of these changes on the musher and dogs.
