it's a...

My ultrasound this morning was 75% successful in that we walked away from the appointment 75% sure that I am growing another boy. The baby was faced down and modestly scrunched up, making it difficult to confidently determine the gender, but at one point the anatomy looked suspiciously male. I go in for my 20-week peek in the middle of April. Perhaps then he'll be less shy. In the meantime, though, 75% is a strong enough reason to use the pronouns he and him.

And lest, for whatever reason, you think otherwise, let me assure you that we are 100% happy. The more I think about it, the more firmly I am convinced that Garrett will benefit best from a little brother, and I am happy to give him one. A playmate, especially one of the car-loving, block-tower-building persuasion, would be so good for him. And if, as these stills suggest, he grows up to also be a rollercoaster lover, well, all the better.

Wheeeee!

Yeah, you do have a lot of ultrasounds. Totally the doctor's preference I imagine. I only have 2 through the whole pregnancy. One at 12 weeks and one at 20.

Our boys will practically be twinners.

Regarding the many ultrasounds -- I think it has to do both with the doctor's preference and the equipment available. The clinic I go to for my regular appointments uses a sonogram machine to do the routine heartbeat check (as opposed to just the Doppler), so each month I not only hear the heartbeat, but I see the baby, too. In addition, my doctor has referred me, as I'm sure he refers pretty much all of his patients, to another clinic nearby for more in-depth prenatal testing. At 12 weeks it was the nuchal-something or other, which I think tested for chromosomal abnormalities. Today was the spina bifida test, and at 20 weeks they'll check the baby's anatomy. After that, it will just be the regular office visits with the not-as-high-tech sonogram machine. When I signed up for 9 months with this doctor, I didn't know I'd be getting glimpses of the baby so often, but I'm certainly not complaining. :)

Yeay for boys!!!!!!

Congratulations and I'm sure Garrett will be a great big brother!!

Have u thought of names??

I feel that it's easier to have another one of the same gender, just because we already know how to take care of a boy. You already have all the toys, all the clothes, all the decor ...

:D

Yeah, yeah! Congrats. As fun as I'm sure a girl would be and will be (if we are lucky enough to have one) I like having little boys around.

Congrats, congrats, congrats. My doctor checked the heartbeat with the ultrasound machine as well. I too was surprised by the number of ultrasounds I had at the beginning, but it's so fun to see the little fetus in there. :) These pictures are amazing!

Congrats to Garrett on getting a brother.

I love the arms & hands - he should enjoy the ample space while he can! Congrats, and I bet it's nice to know you can reuse all those cute boy things for a little brother. :)

We have an overload of boys in our extended family... out of eleven grandchildren, their's only one girl... my Lucy. And she has a twin brother... I always joke the only reason she got to come to this family is that she brought a boy with her. :) Boys are fun though... and to have two close together is a great way to guarantee they will always have a friend. :)

Yeah for a boy! It is so fun so see Josh and Andrew play together... but along the same lines... it is also fun to see Josh and Kenna play. Andrew and Kenna mainly just get into mischief together. But congrats! That is so exciting! And helpful on the purchase of clothing. We have used (and will be) our boy clothes VERY well!
Enjoy!
