Abstract: Selecting the parameters to represent vertical distributions of potential temperature and carbon isotope of δ14C obtained over almost whole areas in the Japan Sea, the average age of deep circulation was calculated using vertical one dimensional multi-layered model. The model results suggest that the maximum age of 160 year appears near the depth of 2,000 m and a reasonable vertical diffusive coefficient is around 2 cm2s−1. A sinking volume transport to deep water below 1°C is estimated to be about 1.3 Sv (1 Sv = 106 m3s−1), which has the same order of magnitude as the inflow volume transport of the Tsushima Warm Current.
