Date: Based on (f. 71v) "Anno domini mdxxii° die Sabati vicesima mensis septembris que fuit dies Sabati post mauricii complevit et scripsit hunc tractatum Valentinus hernworst Civis Erffurdensis etcetera, circa horam secundum post meridiem, in Domo Zou der gulden laden vulgariter nuncupata apud sanctum Gothardum sita, quod manu propria subscripsit et protestor". - (f. 154r) "Dieser tractat (...) ist zuschreiben angefangenn ahm Samstag den 15. Junii [...] volendet den 16 Juny anno 1566 hora 12 nach mittage".
Foliation: Modern, in pencil: I, 1-161. - 16th century, in ink: I-LXXXI (top right = 1-81), 1*-115*, 122*-154* (bottom right = 3-154). Between ff. 113 and 114 six leaves are missing (116*-121*).
Collation: I-1, (1) + 12III (1-72) + 2IV (73-88) + 2VI (89-112), V-6 (113, 114-117) + IV (118-125) + V (126-135) + V+1 (136-146) + II (147-150), IV (151-158) + I (159-160).
Script: Written by Valentinus Hernworst, citizen of Erfurt, in the years 1522-1526 (major part), 1526-1533 (additions and insertions); see his inscriptions on ff. 24r, 24v, 36r, 71v, 76r, 100v, 114v, 120r, 124v, 132v, 141r, 143v, 144r. - A second scribe added texts in 1566 (ff. 146-154)
Illustration: 121 coloured images, in various hands. Two series: ff. 37r-99v and 104r-113v. Most images of the first series could well be executed by Hernworst, but the ones on ff. 78r, 89r-99v) were executed by an illuminator, Johannes Hoch, citizen of Erfurt (in 1526, see Hernworst's inscription on f. 99v).
Binding: Medieval binding, contemporary. - Leather (alum-tawed, blind-tooled) over wooden boards with edges bevelled in the middle. Remnants of two clasp fastenings (closing back to front, hooks and one strap missing). Enbossed metal corner pieces (2x4).
