And actually, Google Profile already told us about it - on Edit your profile > Contact info > Birthday: (Look below) "So your friends and Google can wish you a happy birthday."

We have had this feature on our intranet for a couple of years now - baloons with birthday greetings popping up on the front page. The reaction among the employees are like on this page, some think it's fun and others think it's waste of time. We have the possbility to choose "I don't want a birthday greeting"...

@Yochanan: Google doesn't require your birthday, but this only happens if you provide it.

I used to be a member of a few forums who sent you an email on your birthday if you'd given that information to them. Given these were smallish forums by internet standards, it was quite friendly really.

I saw this looks nice and animated ribbons falling down.
