BSU Hosts Seminar on Academic Degree Requirements
Baku State University (BSU) held a scientific seminar on "Requirements for Scientific Works in the Awarding of Academic Degrees," led by Dr. Sakin Cabarov, Deputy Chairman of the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC) and Doctor of Physical Sciences. The event was organized in recognition of Science Day, observed on March 27.
Dr. Cabarov provided insights into the HAC’s activities and outlined the criteria for scientific works required to obtain academic degrees. He explained that these requirements vary across different fields of study, with distinct standards for exact and natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences.
Highlighting the importance of publishing in indexed journals, Dr. Cabarov noted that approximately 18 indexed journals are currently published in Azerbaijan. He also detailed the required number of publications, including those in indexed journals, for candidates pursuing Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Doctor of Science degrees.
Addressing academic integrity, he stressed the need for careful selection of international conferences for article submissions. He warned against participation in low-quality or formally organized conferences, urging researchers to uphold high scholarly standards. Additionally, he directed doctoral students and researchers to the HAC’s official website, where comprehensive guidelines and requirements are available.
The seminar concluded with a dynamic Q&A session, allowing participants to engage in discussions and seek further clarification on key academic procedures.
