draft research domain criteria
( draft RDoC
)
This NIMH project recognizes that psychiatric diagnostic taxonomy based on phenomenology (signs and symptoms) limits progress in elucidating mechanisms that may lead to more effective treatments. For example, drugs like sertraline whose action involves selective serotonin reuptake inhibition can effectively treat both Major Depressive Episodes and a variety of Anxiety Disorders.
The project will ignore current diagnostic categories but instead study a set of units of analysis of several categories of domains/constructs.
