Allergens Used to Treat and Prevent Coronavirus Disease

With the increase in Coronavirus Disease cases, comes an increase in use of hand sanitizers, as well as demand for them. For sometime a few manufactures have been producing hand sanitizes using almond oil. Now with a sudden increase in demand for hand sanitizers, distilleries are now switching some or all of their production to hand sanitizers. Many of these liquor manufactures are adding glycerin, aloe vera oil, coconut oil or even almond oil to their sanitizes in a race to combat Coronavirus Disease. These products are being fast tracked for production, some are being distributed to medical clinics, hospitals and first responders.

Site Lines in Homes with People With Allergens

Buying or renovating a home? Many people want a home with clear site lines, this may be especially important for families with children with allergies, or other life threatening conditions. For many families being able to wash dishes in the kitchen, while clearly seeing the child that is snacking in the dinning room is important. Being able to be on the laptop in the living room and being able to see child that is eating in the kitchen is important. Maintaining or creating site lines can be a factor while buying or renovating a home.

Being able to see the earliest signs of a reaction could aid in having time to take emergency actions. My opinion is that it far more important to sit with a child while they they try new foods, however keeping child in site while eating is ideal. Most people know not to leave a young child alone while eating, however this may etend to older child with food allergies. When I took Standard First Aid, the instructor advised not to give a child a new food during bad weather encase you need to call the paramedics.

Another easy home improvement to make is to ensure you can easily see the street address from the road, clearing bushes, or other wise making sure house numbers are clearly visible. Stay Safe This Spring < When Doing Home Renovations Be Aware Of Home Improvement Products That Can Contain Allergens

More Fire Logs Made From Nut Shells

Spotted at my local grocery store ANOTHER set of fire logs made from nut shells.

Pine Mountain Fire Logs contain nut shells, the box they come packaged in, do indicate that the logs are made in part from nut shells. The Pine Mountain Fire company's web site does not make this fact clear.

A few weeks ago I spotted at my local grocery store:

Presidents Choice Fire Logs Made From Nut Shells

Another artificial fire log made from nut shells, again made from Presidents Choice.

Back in 2011 I reported on Presidents Choice Fire Logs Made From Nut Shells here, the product disappeared, off shelves for a few years. This holiday season Presidents Choice has AGAIN started making fire logs with nut shells. This time the fact that these products contain nut shells, are a lot less obvious, to people looking at the packaging.

"These fire logs are made from recycled biomass product such as wood sawdust and ground tree nut shells" is written on the side of the box.

The logs come in both single logs and multi packs.

World Water Day

World Water Day 2016

As a gardener, I am a proud owner of a water barrel. I will attempt to grow heirloom beans from seeds for the first time this year. March being the month that contains World Water Day it is a time to think about water, conserving it, using it and keeping our water safe.

From UN World Water Day
"World Water Day is an international observance and an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, be inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference. World Water Day dates back to the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development where an international observance for water was recommended. The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day. It has been held annually since then. Each year, UN-Water — the entity that coordinates the UN’s work on water and sanitation — sets a theme for World Water Day corresponding to a current or future challenge. The engagement campaign is coordinated by one or several of the UN-Water Members with a related mandate."

Happy Fathers Day

My Father once claimed I would eventually find a product that was completely allergen free, but the joke would be on me because the box would be completely empty.

I pointed out that the box would not be allergen free, because the tape to hold the box together would contain corn. More non food items that contain corn here.

Little Did he know I would make such an effort to uncover hidden allergens in non food products in my Chemurgy and Allergens Blog.

Allergy Dangers and Beds

A while back my husband and I were shopping at The Brick, looking for a new mattress for our bed. I asked where they keep their list of ingredients? The sales person was confused, as to what I was referring to. I explained that mattresses, and bed materials can be made from allergens, and I wanted to know if they listed the ingredients, or materials on their products. After I gave him a brief lesson on chemurgy he said that some of The Bricks mattresses are made from in part from soy. I asked what their policy was for warning people with soy allergens about those products, he said they had none.

Hormone Treatments Containing Peanut Oil

Hormone treatments for menopausal and trans* people can contain peanut oil. A common medication for Female to Male (FTM) people is Sustanon.

See Hormone and Menopause Treatments Containing Nuts

On line drug stores have increased, these drug stores usually do not have access to medical records and often don't ask about allergies, in fairness some do. Some online businesses specialize in hormone medications for trans* people. Often these are used by people who are denied hormone treatments, by family or doctors. In some cases trans* young people resort to buying hormones secretly on line due to unsupportive parents.

As more nut allergic people become old enough to make decisions about how they express their gender, they might also seek treatments for their gender identity including hormones. These people need to be aware of hormone treatments that contain peanut oil, as well as menopausal women who may also want to have hormone treatments.

I am not as concerned about trans* people who receive treatments from doctors who specialize in transgender treatments, as they tend to be aware of this issue, and can recommend nut free treatments. Most doctors are not aware of how many medications contain nuts (or other allergens). People who go to a pharmacist at a pharmacy, are more likely to ask questions. The pharmacist should be willing to contact manufacturer on your behalf. Some of these hormonal medications (that contain nuts) are marketed for menopausal women such as Prometrium, Progynon Depot and Sustanon.

I am not aware of any trans* people who have had reactions from injecting peanut oil into themselves, but I wonder how public a trans* person would want to be, about their reaction, or how they came into contact with peanut oil. UPDATRE I read about a young person online who has a reaction after making this post.

Many drugs contain allergens, almost all medications contain corn, here are some drugs that contain nuts, sesame oil and coconuts.

Is PC Really Allergy Friendly?

Every mid August and into early September, more nut free products are promoted in Canada, under back to school sales. These products are marketed as back to school items, not marketed for the nut allergic, though the nut allergic are consumers of these products, it is the parents sending their students to nut free schools in Canada, that make up the vast percentage of sales.

Many nut free Americans seek to order on line nut free products from Canada, most on line allergy grocers also have nut free items as well.

What difference does this make you may ask? In Canada nut free "only" dominates the market by far, not only due to the number of nut allergic families, but the number of nut free schools. (that I support) I am all for nut free products, as well as other "free from" foods.

If Presidents Choice truly wanted to be allergy friendly they would never have made rice milk on the same line as cows milk, while simultaneously expanding their nut free factories. Granted this was sometime ago and I am not aware if this is still the case.

A few years ago President's Choice made Fire Logs Made from Tree Nuts, this is not nut allergic aware, the product is no longer being sold. UPDATE President's Choice released another set of Fire Logs That Contain Nuts Shells.

How strange that a company that makes nut free products, also makes non food items made from nuts. Their are other companies that make firelogs made from treenuts. I don't know of any other companies that make both nut free products. and fire place logs from nut shells.

The newest non food item made from nuts made by President's Choice:

PC Baby Wipes PC Sensitive Baby Wipes
"Ingredients Water, glycerine, prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, tocopheryl acetate, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, polysorbate 80, sorbitan oleate, phenoxyethanol, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, citric acid."
Thanks The Allergy Mom for telling us about this on your Facebook Page

I support Nut Free Products, nut free schools, as well as products that are free from multiple food allergens. Can the nut allergic feel good about a company that makes nut free back to school products, that are not so aware of other allergens, and also makes non food items made from nuts? See also my Chemurgy and Allergens Blog for more non food items made from allergens.

Banana Allergy and Latex Reactions

Thanks to chemurgy, that is the science of making industrial products from crops and crop by products. This a concern for many people with food allergies. Industrial products made from bananas is not only a concern for people with banana allergy, but for those with latex allergies, because of cross reactions for some people.
