Systematic Biology is the flagship journal of the Society of Systematic Biologists. Every three years, the society's Council members select a new Editor-in-Chief to lead the editorial board of the journal. The next elected editor will serve one year as Editor-Elect and then three years as Editor-in-Chief. As Editor-Elect, the new editor will begin their duties and receive training from the current Editor-in-Chief. This ensures that the new editor is prepared to take on the role and preserves continuity in the editorial process. The Editor-in-Chief is a member of the Society of Systematic Biologists Executive Committee, with full voting rights as an SSB Council member. Thus, editors fill an important leadership role in our scientific community.

Systematic Biology Editor-In-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief is elected by the council and each shall normally serve for a three-year term, and thereafter may be reelected for successive terms of one year. After the election of a new editor-in-chief, the editor elect serves one year concurrently with the outgoing editor. The editor elect receives manuscripts and the outgoing editor fills the journal with previously received manuscripts.
