The practicality and prospect of Sino-Western Integration, particularly the compatibility and integration of the Western and the Chinese civilizations in an increasingly polarizing world, is a matter of significance.
Indeed, the unfolding changes in Sino-British and Sino-Western relations more generally deeply affect Chinese entrepreneurs in the West. But they, as a group, are not without agency. They have a vested interest in and a role to play to promote integration and cooperation rather than standing by as tension rises potentially leading towards conflicts between their adopted countries and their country of birth. Chinese entrepreneurs in Western societies should take on this challenge proactively.
This panel discussion explores the problems, challenges, and opportunities they face when integrating into British society. It will also address the challenges that emerge with the introduction of security legislations and the rise of a sceptical view of the Chinese immigrants in recent years. The underlying assumption is that the better integration of Chinese entrepreneurs in the UK will improve their social image and status, and will also contribute to the prosperity and development of the UK and to better UK-China relations.

Xing Wang is a visiting scholar at SOAS University of London and Columbia University in New York. He is a financier and strategic thinker. He previously served as the Vice President of the China Securities Association and Chairman of Northern Assets. He is currently researching on the interaction and integration of Chinese and Western civilizations.
Dr Ewan Smith is Associate Professor of Public Law at University College London. He was a Fellow of Christ Church, Oxford, and the Shaw Foundation Junior Research Fellow at Jesus College, Oxford, and is qualified to practice Law in New York. He was educated at Oxford, the University of Paris and Harvard Law School. He previously taught at Peking, Tsinghua and Renmin Universities in China and at the National University of Singapore. In 2024 he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Bologna. He had also worked at the Foreign Office (2005-15).
Xingang Wang is an ethnic Chinese entrepreneur in the UK. He is an expert in finance and management and had worked for JP Morgan and Barclays Capital. He was educated at Oxford University, Imperial College, and Harvard University. He actively integrates into British society, and has served as a magistrate, school governor, and chairman of a charitable trust.
