Features of the postal items for the blind
- Letters written in Braille can be mailed free of charge.
- Senders with visual impairment as well as the institutions designated by Japan Post can send mail that contains the items outlined below free of charge.
- Writings of different forms such as braille letters and recorded materials for the blind.
- Instruments and equipment developed or used to support the blind such as special CDs, braille writing materials, braille watches, white canes and audio recorders that help people with visual impairment overcome obstacles.
- The items above can be sent both by air or sea.

Usage Requirements and Precautions
- Please write "Items for the blind" in the upper right corner of the envelope or parcel label.

When sending items which may be subject to customs inspection, such as goods with monetary value, customs declaration forms (CN22/CN23) and EAD transmission are mandatory. Such items must therefore be sent with labels created via the International Mail My Page Service*.
Please note that especially when sending books and CDs as postal items for the blind, items may be subject to customs inspection in the destination country/territory and returned to the sender due to a missing customs declaration form or EAD.- Regarding shipping type, please select "Letters/Others" or "Letters/Others (Registered)".
- The handling of postal items for the blind containing goods as registered mail will be discontinued as of Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
