According to the accident trend analysis by the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE), more than a third of accidents were caused by improper use. As these accidents have a high rate of human damages including serious or fatal injuries, NITE has published two types of handbook; one for consumersand the other for businesses, with the aim of
preventing accidents arising from improper use. (2005年05月30日)
NITE has revised and renamed the handbook for consumers "Mi-mamori Handbook". (2008年04月07日)

Handbook for businesses explaining matters for consideration in relation to the prevention of accidents arising from improper use
(Available at Government Publication centers, etc.)
NITE analyzed the collected accident information and found that the number of accidents attributable to improper use or human error accounted for as many as those caused by product defects in design or manufacture.
It is important to always remember that even everyday-use products are potentially hazardous.
The handbook features sample cases of accidents that have actually occurred to date and provides advice to consumers on how to live safely with consumer products.

For the daily efforts made by businesses to supply safe consumer products
The responsibility for accidents arising from improper use is often attributed to the consumer. However, when looking at product liability precedents, this is not always the case. It is thus essential that businesses proactively take preventive measures for improper use to reduce product accidents and secure consumer safety.
The handbook shows specific measures as well as important points that businesses should understand with the aim of preventing accidents arising from improper use.
