Letter from our Global Editor in Chief

Newsweek has continually evolved and reinvented itself over more than 90 years, but our core principles remain steadfast. Our stories illuminate the world around us, offering fresh perspectives on the most significant events of our time. We seek common ground and are committed to delivering factual, fair, and honest journalism, clearly distinguishing opinion from reporting and openly acknowledging our mistakes and shortcomings. Our mission is more vital than ever in these times of unprecedented change.

However, the political culture and media landscape have shifted. There's less common ground and more partisanship, polarization, and suspicion.

Finding common ground is not about diluting our beliefs or avoiding conflict. It's about disagreeing without disrespect, debating without demeaning-- and engaging without enmity. It's about fostering an environment where constructive dialogue can flourish.

At Newsweek, we strive for engagement, not agreement. We cover stories from multiple viewpoints, challenging unexamined assumptions, and conventional wisdom thoughtfully, factually, and respectfully. We believe this commitment makes Newsweek indispensable to our readers today.

I appreciate your interest, and we look forward to hearing from you!
