Could you give me a more detail explanation of why you deleted this topic "Outlook templates (.oft file) have different behaviors on browsers" (archive, do not add new topics.) . .

Deleted redirect

Latest comment: 1 year ago 4 comments2 people in discussion

Hi Clump :) Can I ask why you deleted this redirect in my userspace? I’m not sure if mediawikiwiki has different norms in this regard than other wikis I’ve contributed to (apologies if so); but, in general, I like keeping redirects as a result of moves within my userspace.

All the best, ‍—‍a smart kitten [meow] 14:50, 10 January 2025 (UTC) Reply

  • Hi. Keeping the redirect doesn't seem useful in any way---no one else will use it, nothing links to it, and you yourself renamed/moved it, so why would there be any point to keeping it? --Clump (talk) 15:06, 10 January 2025 (UTC) Reply
I guess my thoughts are, what’s the point in deleting it? Redirects are cheap, and I like having it left behind in my userspace — if nothing else, as a record of a title within my userspace that used to hold a page. Apologies if I’ve worded this badly, but - to be completely honest - I’m having trouble seeing what the benefit of deleting it was: I can’t see that its deletion has solved any problems, and (in this case) it resulted in me being confused and starting this thread on your talk page asking about it.
All the best, ‍—‍a smart kitten [meow] 16:32, 10 January 2025 (UTC) Reply
It is the essence of an "unneeded redirect" for the reasons I mentioned above. --Clump (talk) 17:22, 10 January 2025 (UTC) Reply

Is there a specific reason that you undid adding of https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/q/reviewer:rahkooy@gmail.com to https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Git/Reviewers and cleaning up old reviewers. If I messed up the syntax please let me know. Physikerwelt (talk) 16:06, 18 January 2025 (UTC) Reply

  • Was that IP edit you? There's no obvious canonical truth for that page, but in general, it's hard to trust a random IP edit made without even an explanatory comment, especially when the edit removes or changes things for other users. --Clump (talk) 16:13, 18 January 2025 (UTC) Reply
Alright, I was not logged in. I would just w:Wikipedia:Assume_good_faith if the edit makes sense in general. Thank you. Physikerwelt (talk) 16:44, 18 January 2025 (UTC) Reply
    • Someone adding themselves to that page seems relatively benign. Someone removing two others with no explanation seems less so---an edit summary would've been helpful to avoid the confusion. --Clump (talk) 17:38, 18 January 2025 (UTC) Reply
I really appreciate that you help to maintain the project. I will write a commit message in the future and double check that I'm logged in and I understand that is very very hard to assume good faith for people that are not logged in and don't write useful commit messages, but maybe it's a good mental workout to try anyhow. Hello,Clump. Thanks for your contribution in Mediawiki. I want to know why you think of this page uses mechanical translation. If it is because I did not follow the English version of the writing, then my understanding is that it can better explain this script to Chinese readers. And this is a precedent for reference.Thanks.--人间百态 (talk) 13:10, 27 January 2025 (UTC) Reply

Hello 人间百态. I didn't necessarily think it was mechanical, just incorrect/low quality in the sense that your translation omitted the translation variables and template in the original source. --Clump (talk) 13:20, 27 January 2025 (UTC) Reply

The duplicate headers was the issue hence the anchor, I removed the anchor to localization, but kept the other anchors. Partial revert could have been better called for. Waddie96 (talk) 20:07, 18 February 2025 (UTC) Reply

  • I see---for "Localization" only though. The other anchor isn't necessary, and given that you changed the heading to "Localization (main)" that additional anchor is also unnecessary. My deepest apologies for troubling/inconveniencing you with this, Clump. I had no intention of doing so and I request your pardon/forgiveness for this error.

I sincerely meant no harm regarding the matter, I only wished for others to better understand my POV and background so we (as in other people and myself) could better collaborate/cooperate in future efforts with less risks of misunderstanding. I hope you understand where I'm coming from and that I truly meant no ill will or malice or disruptive intention. I also hope that, should we interact in the future, this does not cause any enmity or hostility.

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Tulsi I have acknowledged my mistake and was about to revert the changes myself. Thank you, and I hope that your day goes well and that I have not displeased you too far in any way. I will also send my apologies to other admins.

(If I may, could I request a reply so I know for sure this was received and read? I just want to know for sure that you understand where I'm coming from because I'm extremely anxious and I really don't want to make a horrible first impression and potentially draw hostility from those affected by this including yourself.) Yours sincerely with best regards, MTAMSK! (talk) 19:05, 18 April 2025 (UTC) Reply

Variables in translation of Help:Extension:WikibaseCirrusSearch/pl

Latest comment: 1 year ago 4 comments2 people in discussion

Hi. Well, I would like to use variables, but there is some problem with them. With variables we got in polish text WikibaseCirrusSearch jest extension na bazie CirrusSzukaj [...], where first variable is not translated (we are getting word extension visible, instead rozszerzenie), and second one is CirrusSzukaj which literally means cirrus-search in polish (search part was translated; but this probably should remain not translated, as it s name of extension. (check) So – something is wrong with those variables (maybe they should contain only adres part, and be used as [[1ドル|extension]] or [2ドル ExtensionName]) in my opinion. Now it's a mess :) regards, Piastu (talk) 11:39, 12 May 2025 (UTC) Reply

Hello. For the un-translated "extension" it would seem there is an error in the translation markup; the translation to CirrusSzukaj is, however, is indeed the translated name of the target extension page. The translation unit you linked is the untranslated text---it's the same unit I removed due to a missing var that I was not sure how to fix (and in which you had added some additional trailing text too). --Clump (talk) 12:38, 12 May 2025 (UTC) Reply
Translating CirrusSearch to CirrusSzukaj is like translating Microsoft Word to Microsoft Słowo – or Photoshop to Sklep fotograficzny . Software names shouldn't be translated in most cases – to not confuse people. Target title also should not be translated – I've fix it. Piastu (talk) 13:14, 12 May 2025 (UTC) Reply

Hi, in order not to start war of edits, let's talk here. Despite the fact that "category pywikibot is alread in category bots" pywikibot belongs not only to the category of the same name, but also to the category:bots, and to no lesser extent. Category:pywikibot primarily refers to auxiliary pages that are secondary to the main page. — Ivan-r (talk) 03:46, 6 November 2025 (UTC) Reply

I disagree. Pywikibot is already in the Bots category by transitivity, and adding it in at multiple layers defeats the whole purpose of having a category tree. Category:Pywikibot is not just auxiliary pages; it in fact starts with a link to the manual page. In addition, "Pywikibot" as a category is already prominent in Category:Bots; adding a second entry for "Pywikibot" (the manual page) is just confusing. --Clump (talk) 12:32, 6 November 2025 (UTC) Reply
Then it would be more appropriate to delete the pywikibot category, since the bots category takes precedence. Ivan-r (talk) 23:46, 4 December 2025 (UTC) Reply

Why did you revert my edit to Recommendations for mobile friendly articles on Wikimedia wikis? You gave no explanation whatsoever. Hacked (Talk|Contribs) 10:51, 26 November 2025 (UTC) Reply

The comma isn't necessary; the text is grammatical and reads fine as is, and making arbitrary stylistic edits to existing text is not helpful. I didn't think removing an unnecessary comma added without any (useful) explanation warranted an explanation. --Clump (talk) 12:07, 26 November 2025 (UTC) Reply
"grammatical and reads fine" when actually a comma there is needed for grammatical reasoning. The sentence is technically correct with a comma, that's what I'm saying. It's incorrect without a comma and I don't know why you're not seeing that. It's not a personal preference, it's just a fact. Not only were you "removing an unnecessary comma" (when it's necessary), you reverted my edit, so an explanation would've been helpful.
What I'm basically getting from your reply is that you're saying a comma is redundant when it's actually not. A comma is needed there. Hacked (Talk|Contribs) 19:23, 26 November 2025 (UTC) Reply
No it is not. You're using a comma as a pause in speech. Not entirely incorrect, but not a requirement by any means. --Clump (talk) 19:29, 26 November 2025 (UTC) Reply
To be sure, are you saying it's redundant because mediawiki's policies say "ignore grammar rules" or you're saying it's redundant because it's genuinely not needed due to grammar rules. Hacked (Talk|Contribs) 19:35, 26 November 2025 (UTC) Reply
Are you here to contribute to MediaWiki development and/or documentation, or to just argue the pedantry of comma placement? If it's just the latter, my interest is exhausted, so please try a different wiki. --Clump (talk) 22:06, 26 November 2025 (UTC) Reply
I am here to contribute to MediaWiki development, that's precisely why I'm here. I'm just starting small. I know this discussion is merely about a comma but all I'm saying is that revert of yours is incorrect. A comma does belong there and it's not redundant. Hi Clump, could you tell me how to create a translation for a page without the "Translate this page" link? I have checked Project:Language policy, Extension:Translate, Help:Extension:Translate, Help:Extension:Translate/Translation example, etc, and they do not help. Or can you at least give me the source code of my translation you deleted so I can add it again when the "Translate this page" link is available for the page in the future? Honoka55 (talk) 11:30, 13 March 2026 (UTC) Reply

Hi. You'll need to wait for someone to mark it for translation (you can prepare it by adding the <translate> tags, but there are a lot of caveats/conditions to check; see Help:Extension:Translate/Page translation example for help). I'd rather not restore the page since it would occupy the same space as the actual translation---I'll copy the actual translated text into a sub-page under you, but to avoid that ending up in a whole lot of categories I'll remove most of the template calls (so it'll look poor). --Clump (talk) 11:44, 13 March 2026 (UTC) Reply

Deletion of my Parsoid issue reports

Latest comment: 4 months ago 3 comments2 people in discussion

Hello, you removed two of my Parsoid issue reports, which said that infobox photos and maps are getting squashed, with the reason ''that's the infobox resizing, not due to parsing.'' This behavior always (on the two pages) happens with Parsoid, and never with the legacy parser. Does that not make them Parsoid issues? Michael21107 (talk) 19:50, 19 March 2026 (UTC) Reply

Yes, thanks for the clarification---sorry, and I've undone the deletion. --Clump (talk) 19:53, 19 March 2026 (UTC) Reply

Hello clump. My name is Carinebabarita. I created a MediaWiki page titled "Non-Dev Hackathon Paris 2026." I'd like to know why you deleted it. This page was created to be updated over time Carinebabarita (talk) 19:15, 20 March 2026 (UTC) Reply

No you didn't, you created "Formation non Dev pour Hackathon Paris 2026". Please use the translation system to create translated pages. --Clump (talk) 19:19, 20 March 2026 (UTC) Reply

Request to Unblock User:Harry sidhuz

Latest comment: 4 months ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

@Clump Hello! I come here with a request to unblock a Punjabi Wikimedian with Username Harry sidhuz. The account was indefinitely blocked on MediaWiki four years ago. The user was quite new back then and might have inadvertently made some mistakes. I assure you that he is a trusted contributor to Wikimedia projects in Punjabi language now and regularly joins in-person activities as well. Let me know if you have need any additional information to unblock! He had intended to request the unblock himself on your talk page but couldn't edit your talk page here because of the block. - Satdeep Gill (talk) 03:33, 27 March 2026 (UTC) Reply

Hello Satdeep. I no longer recall exactly what they'd done, but since you're willing to vouch for them ok. --Clump (talk) 13:03, 27 March 2026 (UTC) Reply

Reverts of comments about Temporary Accounts on Russian Wikipedia

Latest comment: 3 months ago 4 comments2 people in discussion

Hi, what's the reason for your reverts of all of the comments about Russian Wikipedia on Talk:Trust and Safety Product/Temporary Accounts within the last two weeks or so? They seemed harmless to me. Matma Rex (talk) 16:31, 2 April 2026 (UTC) Reply

Hello. It seems like weird and not relevant noise that belongs on the ru wiki not here---is there a reason to host the celebration of the last IPs/posts on a specific, external wiki (we don't have that for any other wiki). --Clump (talk) 16:41, 2 April 2026 (UTC) Reply
Russian Wikipedia was the last wiki to get temporary accounts, so I figure those people wanted to share those links here to mark the conclusion of the whole project. Matma Rex (talk) 16:59, 2 April 2026 (UTC) Reply
Ok, not personally convinced it's that meaningful :) but it is indeed relatively harmless so if you want to restore them I don't object. --Clump (talk) 21:10, 2 April 2026 (UTC) Reply

You blocked one of my IPs

A Message send to me say:

Your account or IP address has been blocked by ‪Clump‬. The reason given is Inserting false or outdated translations. Start of block: 12:40, 4 April 2026 Expiry of block: 12:40, 18 April 2026 Intended blockee: ~2026-20795-01

bla..bla.. Your current IP address is 85.49.132.16, and the block ID is #171235.

You made a mistake by blocking my laptop. I am now writing to you from my desktop. I have made over 10,000 edits to MediaWiki and I would never commit vandalism. I do not understand your reason and I hope you will rectify it. Jmarchn (talk) 17:18, 5 April 2026 (UTC) Reply

Hi,
If you pay a minimum of attention to the recent changes list here you will notice that edits from temporary accounts are to be considered suspicious by default unless you happen to know the account in question or you have loads of time in your hands to check who it belongs to. You can't expect admins to magically speak all languages so they can tell with 100% certainty if an edit to a translation is constructive or not, not to mention Clump is more or less the only person here reverting disruptive edits. In addition, I'm pretty sure the amount of legit edits to translations originating from temp accounts is negligible, so the more reason to err on the safe side. In the end, as the most active translator to Catalan Clump was protecting your work in a way :-P Tactica (talk) 18:32, 5 April 2026 (UTC) Reply
Jmarchn, you may have made 10K edits, but ~2026-20795-01 has made just two, and all they did was add some extraneous text not part of the original source. I removed the block since it's you, but if you don't want to login it would help if you at least use the edit summary. --Clump (talk) 19:17, 5 April 2026 (UTC) Reply
@Clump @Tactica OK. I hadn't noticed that my session had been missed. The strange edit was to clarify the concepts "content" and "subject". That's why I wrote "N. del T." = "T.N." or "translator's note". Now I've recovered that content. Thank you very much. Jmarchn (talk) 05:17, 6 April 2026 (UTC) Reply

Hi! Thanks for deleting user:super_nabla/1. That page was just a test for the wikitext-format export of my tool toolforge:accessibility-checker (cf. Accessibility Checker). I'll try to avoid testing on Google websites and focus on testing on MediaWiki projects, which is the target of the tool.—super nabla (🪰 msg) 11:04, 3 May 2026 (UTC) Reply

Hello there. Do you really think my answer was poorly written? Even after your revert, I think I stand by it. I clearly said I did not want to hurt the guy, only that a resignation should be considered, and only if not financially problematic. That's the least I can do. In no other professional situation would such a failed launch be awarded with a continuation of a contract. And what makes it even worse here is that it's about a tool supposed to prevent others from producing poorly-launched content! If you may, can I suggest putting it back? I am still untitled to my opinion and he claims he wants feedback. My feedback is suggesting to drop the tool or, if a better option, to resign. Even if unpleasant, it's after all, literally what he asks for. Feedback. If he cannot face feedback, the tool he supports is even shittier, in a sense, for there's not even a slimmer of hope he can improve it. So yeah... Respectfully, would you consider putting it back? Thierry Caro (talk) 16:52, 26 May 2026 (UTC) Reply

It was an unnecessarily condescending comment that added nothing to your original feedback. No I will not restore it. --Clump (talk) 17:16, 26 May 2026 (UTC) Reply

Hi Clump, I've noticed the 2017 block of User:Sänger after some trouble. Is it possible to review such a case? NDG (talk) 09:06, 17 June 2026 (UTC) Reply

Hi NDG. It wasn't my block, so it'd be better to ask someone on the Code of Conduct Committee, some of which at least are certainly still active. --Clump (talk) 11:32, 17 June 2026 (UTC) Reply
Thanks, I will get in contact! NDG (talk) 11:35, 17 June 2026 (UTC) Reply

Talk:Article guidance

Latest comment: 11 days ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

Hey, the flow of the Article guidance tool, deployed on a few wikis, incl. French and Turkish WP, directs newbies to Talk:Article guidance with an automatically suggested section title. These clumsy short sections are legit. SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 13:05, 22 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Ok -- I've been leaving most, but the last couple in ALL CAPS just looked like nonsense (and the user returning with the draft article is another red flag). I'll leave the short ones from now on though. --Clump (talk) 13:08, 22 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
