[edit ]- Requested user-rights: Translation administrator.

I continuously translate texts and am already an administrator on other projects such as Meta and Commons. I am requesting these rights here because I am increasingly active in translations on this project. I also often need this right to correct poorly translated pages. Having these rights will save time for both myself and the other administrators. --Dezedien (talk) 01:17, 12 February 2026 (UTC) reply
- Oppose Oppose Lack of understanding of translate syntax is shown in https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Readers/Information_Retrieval/Phase_0&diff=prev&oldid=8224856. * Pppery * it has begun 07:17, 22 February 2026 (UTC) reply
- @Pppery Judging me based on a debatable tagging, depending on different points of view, is not really relevant.
- Please consider the overall picture and the volume of translations I have been doing for over 10 years on platforms such as Meta, Commons, and MediaWiki, without any dispute.
- And if there are occasional errors, that should not be grounds for penalization. I am an administrator on several translation platforms—why would I suddenly be considered inexperienced on Media?
- Your judgment is superficial, sorry. Dezedien (talk) 09:10, 23 February 2026 (UTC) reply
- The number of translations you've done is completely irrelevant to whether you should be a translation admin. The only thing that matters is whether you have proven you understand the correct markup to use on sources pages, which you haven't. This isn't "superficial" - it's requiring that you understand how to use the tools you are requesting permission to use. * Pppery * it has begun 16:31, 23 February 2026 (UTC) reply
- @Pppery Thank you for your feedback. I understand your concerns regarding markup. My request is only for a practical need to move forward and contribute more effectively.
- I am familiar with the markups and invite you to review my global work, not just my recent contributions. I collaborate openly with others and are always ready with the expected standards and make corrections if needed.
- MediaWiki is about working together and correcting each other. We are not perfect and do make mistakes, but when they are pointed out, we acknowledge them and fix them. That is the wiki spirit.
- Hopping this can convince you of my good understanding and genuine intentions. best,,, Dezedien (talk) 22:25, 23 February 2026 (UTC) reply
- These three paragraphs of boilerplate do absolutely nothing to convince me. Yes, of course MediaWiki is about collaboration, but what translation admin actually does is allow you to circumvent the standard process of Shirayuki (or others) reviewing and correcting your markup, which is the antithesis of that. I'm a translation admin here (since it's implicitly included in sysop), but I generally leave non-trivial changes for Shirayuki to mark for that reason, even though I've been doing this for years, even though I'm one of the most active translation admins on Meta. Translation adminship is a powertool; if you know what you are doing with it you can do important things, but you can easily force others to spend dozens of hours cleaning up messes you made in one click. (Admittedly the software has changed to make that specific case easier, but you should get the point). I'm sorry, but I've been burned too many times by things like that to accept the freewheeling "we all make mistakes" culture you're suggesting in this area, especially when you not having this right only means you have to wait a few hours for Shirayuki to mark your changes for translation. The risk is much worse than the value here. This will be my final comment in this thread - nothing you can possibly say will convince me to support this request. * Pppery * it has begun 22:38, 23 February 2026 (UTC) reply
- I welcome that point of view. We cannot agree on everything, but in any case it has been a pleasure to discuss this with you. What I am sure of is that I will continue to ask, and the admins will have to excuse me. hoping for support Dezedien (talk) 18:23, 24 February 2026 (UTC) reply

N Not done After about 3 weeks, there isn't sufficient support to grant this right. I suggest addressing Pppery's objections and reapplying after at least 6 months.--Jasper Deng (talk) 05:25, 13 March 2026 (UTC) reply
