[edit ]Allow the API to be used to perform write operations (page edits, rollback, etc.) when an authorized user accesses it.
Use the writeapi right instead to enable or disable API writes to specific or all user groups.
Starting with MediaWiki 1.32.0 the API cannot be disabled completely since it is now required for running MediaWiki.
