This page contains updates on the Article guidance experimental work to improve the process of creating Wikipedia articles that are well-structure and policy-compliant through a community-curated guidance. The exploration work began in October 2025.

Experimentation updates

Where we are

[edit ]

The first version of Article Guidance has been built and is now live. The feature is currently in an experimentation phase: we are running a controlled A/B test across a set of pilot Wikipedias to measure whether the guided article creation workflow helps new editors write articles that survive community review.

Pilot wikis

[edit ]

The following Wikipedias have been actively engaging with the feature during this phase.

Wikipedia Status
Simple English Wikipedia A/B experiment active
French Wikipedia A/B experiment active
Turkish Wikipedia A/B experiment active
Arabic Wikipedia Feature enabled, outlines being prepared
Bengali Wikipedia Feature enabled, outlines being prepared
Italian Wikipedia Outlines being prepared
Polish Wikipedia Outlines being prepared
Portuguese Wikipedia Paused
Spanish Wikipedia Community discussions ongoing

Early experiment results

[edit ]

The experiment compares articles created through the Article Guidance workflow against articles created the usual way, and tracks whether those articles are still live 30 days later.

Early results are encouraging. Articles created through the guided workflow are surviving at a meaningfully higher rate than those created without guidance. This is a strong early signal that the feature is having a positive effect, and gives us confidence that continuing to invest in and improve it is the right direction.

The experiment has also shown us where the workflow can be improved. The main area of opportunity is outline coverage: not every article type has a matching outline yet, which means some editors go through the flow without receiving tailored guidance. Expanding outline coverage across pilot wikis is one of the clearest ways the community can help strengthen the results.

What's coming next

[edit ]

Based on what we have learned from the experiment, the next phase of work focuses on three areas:

  • Improving the guided workflow based on the drop-off points and gaps identified in the experiment, so more editors receive useful guidance when they need it.
  • Bringing guidance inside the Visual Editor so that outlines and writing tips are available not just before an article is started, but during the writing process itself, in collaboration with the Editing team.
  • Expanding to more Wikipedias as the feature becomes easier for communities to configure and manage independently.

Project Updates

[edit ]

Improvement made on the feature since the enablement of the Article guidance MVP in some Wikipedias will be documented below.
