Waraitake are Mushrooms that appear in the animated film Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyūshutsu Dai Sakusen! They are based on the Panaeolus papilionaceus , a species of poisonous mushroom known as the「笑い茸」(waraitake, "laughing mushroom") in Japan due to its psychedelic properties. When consumed, the consumer becomes delirious and starts laughing uncontrollably.

During the film, Luigi, famished, is led to a valley of mushrooms by two Goombas. Mario, who was sleeping, wakes up when he hears Luigi laughing due to having eaten some Waraitake. Mario, along with Kibidango, finds Luigi in the mushroom valley and attempts to bring him back to reality, but is knocked away by the delirious Luigi into a cliff, which causes him to accidentally eat some Nakimashitatake that fall to the ground.

Later, Mario, in an attempt to counter the effects of the Nakimashitatake, gives Luigi what he thinks to be a Waraitake, only for Luigi to become enraged and punch him several times; Mario realizes that he gave him a Koritake instead.

Later, after being captured by the big Koopa Paratroopa and taken to her nest, Mario throws some Waraitake into the chicks' mouths, causing them to laugh hysterically due to its effects.
