Firebites[1] are enemies in Donkey Kong Country Returns and its Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch ports. They are encountered in only one level—the Cliff Key Temple level Perilous Passage. Firebites are relatives of Buzzbites that behave identically to them, moving quickly along platforms, walls, and ceilings, but the key difference with Firebites is that they are covered in flames and leave behind temporary trails of fire. Contact with a Firebite or its flames causes the Kongs' health meter to lose a heart. They cannot be defeated.
