Falling blocks[1] are slab-like obstacles in Super Mario Land . They appear identical to the surrounding landscape of a level, but they fall after a moment after Mario comes close to them, in a similar fashion to falling spikes. Falling blocks inflict damage upon contact from below or the sides, even before falling down, but Mario can briefly stand on them. They appear only in World 1-3 and World 4-1.
