Director of Human Rights Proceedings
Applications are invited from persons wishing to be considered for appointment as Director of Human Rights Proceedings. This is a full-time position based in Auckland.
The Office of Human Rights Proceedings is an independent body within the Human Rights Commission. The Director of Human Rights Proceedings heads the Office which is responsible for providing publicly funded representation to complainants in proceedings under the Human Rights Act 1993. The decisions on whether representation is provided are guided by criteria in legislation.
Under the terms of the Privacy Act 1993, we are required to inform you that:
- the information you provide is being collected to assess your suitability for appointment as the Director of Human Rights Proceedings
- the information may be checked by reference to the referees you have named in your curriculum vitae
- you have rights of access to the information held about yourself and you have the right to request corrections to this information; however, comments made by other people about your suitability may not be available if these people have been promised that their comments will be treated confidentially
- the information will be kept for as long as it is required for the purposes for which it has been obtained.

Deputy Inspector-General of Defence
Applications are invited from persons wishing to be considered for appointment as the Deputy Inspector-General of Defence (Deputy IGD). This is a full-time position based in Wellington.
The role of the Office of the IGD is to:
- provide the Minister with dedicated independent oversight of the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF)
- support the Minister in their responsibility to the House of representatives for the activities of the NZDF
- assure the public that the activities of the NZDF are subject to independent scrutiny, including in relation to the NZDF’s compliance with New Zealand’s obligations under international law.
Key functions of the Office of the IGD are:
- to investigate incidents that have occurred in the course of activities of the NZDF, and any subsequent acts or omissions of the NZDF in relation to those incident;
- to assess and identify potential improvements or additions to policies and procedures governing activities of the NZDF.
The IGD may carry out any such investigation or assessment on their own initiative or at the request of the Minister, the Secretary of Defence or the Chief of Defence Force.
