Download FreeTTS: Download the latest version of FreeTTS from the official website at https://sourceforge.net/projects/freetts/files/FreeTTS/. Extract the contents of the downloaded file to a directory on your local machine.
Add the FreeTTS library to your project: In your Java IDE (such as Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA), create a new Java project or open an existing one. Then, add the FreeTTS library to your project by including the freetts.jar file in your project's classpath. In Eclipse, you can do this by right-clicking on your project, selecting "Build Path", and then selecting "Configure Build Path". In the dialog that appears, click on the "Libraries" tab, and then click "Add External JARs" to add the freetts.jar file to your project's classpath.
Write your code: Once you have added the FreeTTS library to your project, you can start using it to generate speech from text. Here is a basic example to get you started:
import com.sun.speech.freetts.Voice;
import com.sun.speech.freetts.VoiceManager;
public class FreeTTSExample {
public static void main(String[] args) {
VoiceManager voiceManager = VoiceManager.getInstance();
Voice voice = voiceManager.getVoice("kevin16");
if (voice == null) {
System.err.println("Cannot find voice: kevin16");
System.exit(1);
}
voice.allocate();
voice.speak("Hello, world!");
voice.deallocate();
}
}
This code uses the VoiceManager class to get an instance of the kevin16 voice, which is one of the built-in voices in FreeTTS. It then allocates the voice, speaks the text "Hello, world!", and deallocates the voice when finished.
That's it! You have successfully set up FreeTTS for Java and generated speech from text.
