Best Armor

While the roughly made Survivor's Set will get you through the first few encounters in Windrose, it's not going to win any awards for best armor. There are two sets, however, that I'd recommend over the others. These are the Privateer and Conquistador Sets. In this guide, we'll cover the buffs each set creates, why we consider them the best, and we've thrown in some mix-and-match suggestions.

How Armor Sets Work

Each of the Armor Sets (minus the Survivor's Set) comes with two bonuses.

• If you equip two pieces from the same set, you'll unlock the first bonus.
• If you equip four pieces from the same set, you'll unlock the second bonus.

Privateer Set

The Privateer is my favorite overall set for aggressive gameplay because it turns you into a lethal pirate who can easily deal with groups.

After working my way through every point of interest on the map, I found that there are not many situations you'll face where you're not going up against multiple furry animals, drowned, or filthy pirates all at once. Rather than quickly becoming overwhelmed, the Privateer set actually means you can use those situations to your advantage.

The reason I've chosen this over other sets, such as the Pikeman and Flibustier, is that although they increase weapon damage, they also force you into picking a one-handed or two-handed weapon early on. With the Privateer, you have the flexibility to choose your weapon, and the chance to do extra damage remains the same.

I think its true power shines toward the later areas of the game, especially when you invest your progression points into Mastery and consume dishes that have a Mastery buff.

Conquistador Set

My other favorite set is the Conquistador, especially for early game encounters and boss fights. I've spent my time in Windrose swapping between the Privateer and Conquistador, and when the fights have been just a tad overwhelming, especially early on, I've gone for the Conquistador.

The Conquistador turns you into a solid, protected wall against enemy attacks. Look, I'm just tired of turning into a ragdoll each time a Charging Boar comes at me from the dense jungle bushes. But being able to ignore the first few hits you take and not worry about being stunned certainly helps.

Again, I've found it useful for taking on groups, especially when enemies try to flank you, as it means any attacks that slip through are useless. With the Conquistador, you also have flexibility with the build you craft around it, so you can make a Conquistador that's just as heavy on damage as it is on taking hits.

That being said, it's best to find weapons that will boost your Damage Resistance even further. Your defence power and Damage Resistance with this set will make sure you're able to stick out a tougher fight for longer.

How to Get All Armor Pieces

While there are no guaranteed drops from looting Points of Interest, you can buy pieces of each set from Factions. This will help you at least unlock the first buff for each set. If you want to collect all four pieces, then you should focus on clearing all POIs across the map.
