Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary is a hard science fiction novel originally published on May 4, 2021. Project Hail Mary debuted at #3 on the New York Times Bestsellers List, where it reappeared after news of the film adaptation, and landed on a number of best lists by the end of the year.

In an interview with The New York Times, Weir explained that the book borrowed some ideas from an unfinished project called Zhek. Like previous novels written by Weir, the book has received particular praise for its treatment of math, science, and space, as well as its sense of humor and hope.

Weir sold the film rights for Project Hail Mary to Amazon MGM in early 2020, before the book’s publication. Ryan Gosling signed on as a producer and lead role soon after.

In addition to a hardcover and paperback, the book is also available on Kindle. An audiobook version was released in 2022 with voiceover work from Ray Porter, which went on to win Audiobook of the Year at the Audie Awards.
