  • The official website specifically stated "You'll be able to experience the true joy of the Pokémon series—battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them", - it's now confirmed the overworld catching mechanics from Pokemon Legends: Arceus won't make a return.
  • The website also stated "You’ll be able to see the Pokémon of this region in the skies, in the seas, in the forests, on the streets—all over!" - it's now confirmed that Pokemon will appear outside of random encounters, much like in Legends: Arceus.

Main Scarlet and Violet Gameplay Mechanics

  • Like usual, there are Pokemon Scarlet and Violet exclusives and differences , which include different Professors for each version named Sada and Turo, Legendary Pokemon Miraidon and Koraidon, and more.
  • After the second trailer, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were confirmed to be "open-world RPGs".
  • A new mechanic called "Let's Go!" will send your Pokemon off in a direction - it will Auto Battle nearby Pokemon and pick up items.
    • This mechanic is prevalent in Starfall Street - it appears you can use multiple Pokemon to fight waves of Team Star Grunts' Pokemon.
  • As of the August 3rd Pokemon Presents, we know Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's region Paldea . It seems to be influenced by Spain, and potentially the entire Iberian Peninsula.
  • There is 4-player Co-Op. From the official website: "Along with series staples, such as trading and battling Pokémon, you will be able to explore the various locations of the region in these games with other players." The second trailer specifically showed the four players splitting up in different directions. The Oct. 6 trailer confirmed you can have Picnics with other players as well.
    • The press release says "Additional games, systems and/or accessories may be required for multiplayer mode."
  • This generation's battle "gimmick" is Tera Pokemon and the Terastal Phenomenon.
  • Gym Leaders have begun to be revealed, including Grusha, the Ice-type Gym Leader, and Brassius, the Grass-type Gym Leader.
  • Instead of camping, you can Picnic with your Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Build bonds with your Pokemon, make sandwiches, and more.
    • This may replace the usual Pokemon Daycare Breeding, as occasionally you'll find a Pokemon Egg while picnicking
