Wool

Wool can be collected in various ways from the Sheep population of Minecraft. First is to simply kill the sheep, which yields one block of wool. However, with some Shears a sheep's wool can be collected more efficiently and without death. Shearing a sheep will yield between two and five blocks of wool.

Dyes

Wool can be colored several different colors for aesthetic purposes. Dyes can be created from Lapis Lazuli, Cacti, Roses, or Ink Sac. Sheep can also be dyed directly in order to harvest more colored wool.

Crafting

Wool can also be crafted using using four pieces of String placed in a 2x2 square in a crafting table, although it is much easier to collect wool from sheep and use the string for crafting a Bow or a Fishing Rod.
