Forest

Updated:

The Minecraft Forest biome is the most common biome in all of Minecraft: not only do normal Forests appear the most frequently, but it also has five variants (not even counting Taigas). Forests are a very good biome to set your home close to because the trees provide a source of wood, which you can use to make basic tools. Wood is also a common building material, and it can be made into coal via a Furnace to act as a fuel source, or make Torches for exploring Caves.

Forest Subtopics:

Forest Variants

There are five variants to the Forest biome:

Birch Forest Dark Forest
Birch Forests are the temperate versions of Forests, appearing at slightly lower temperatures. As the name implies, they are populated entirely by birch trees, which are a lighter color than the Oaks that appear in the other variants. Dark Forests are vast forests with extremely clustered and thick trees: their canopy is thick enough to use as walkways. This can completely block out the sun, making it dark enough for hostile mobs to spawn. Huge Mushrooms are common, and this is the only biome where Woodland Mansions and Dark Oak trees can appear.
Flower Forest Old Growth Birch Forest
Flower Forests have sparser amounts of trees than the regular forest, but as the name implies they have greater amounts of and varieties of flowers. Because of this, Bee Nests are more common in this biome. Old Growth Birch Forests, also known as Tall Birch Forests, have much taller Birch Trees than its standard variant. This provides them with more wood, however their extreme height makes it more difficult to completely mine them.
