Breaking the Code

Updated:

"Breaking the Code" is Belle's second Friendship Quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley. It is unlocked upon reaching Level 4 Friendship and completing her previous Friendship Quest, "Book Hunt." In this quest, Belle has discovered a strange book written in code that she is attempting to translate. This guide will cover every step and objective of this quest to help players discover the secrets contained in this bizarre tome - and become better friends with Belle in the process!

How To Find Maurice's Design Pages

Belle's father, the inventor Maurice, left her some Design Pages needed to create a Translator Machine. Belle hopes that the Translator Machine will be able to decipher the book.

There are three pages in total, and they can all be found back in the Beauty and the Beast Realm accessed via the Dream Castle. These can be easily confused with the storybook pages that are also found throughout the Enchanted Castle and will be needed for a later quest. Generally, Design Pages look like a pile of paper, while the storybook pages look like a single page.

The three page locations are:

First Design Page Location

The first of Maurice's Design Pages is found on the ground in the Garden. It is located next to a tree with a white trunk just outside of the hedge maze's center.

Second Design Page Location

The second of Maurice's Design Pages is on the floor inside the West Wing, just beneath the painting of Belle and the Beast you created during the "Into the West Wing!" quest.

Third Design Page Location

The third of Maurice's Design Pages is on the floor in the back left corner of the Library, just behind the standalone metal column.

Make The Translation Machine

Bring the three Design Pages to Belle. You and Belle will decide to make a more modern twist on the machine, combining Maurice's schematics with your knowledge of computers and technology.

You will need the following items to make the Translation Machine:

  • 30 x Softwood
    • Softwood can be Foraged near trees/bushes in the Plaza, Peaceful Meadow, Glade of Trust, and Forest of Valor. It can also be purchased from Kristoff's Stall.
  • 20 x Glass
    • 1 Glass can be crafted from 5 Sand and 1 Coal. It can also be purchased from Kristoff's Stall.
  • 4 x Tinkering Parts
    • 3 Tinkering Parts can be crafted from 2 Iron Ingots. Iron Ingots are crafted from Iron Ore and Coal and can also be purchased at Kristoff's Stall.
  • 1 x Motherboard
    • Talk to WALL-E to receive a Motherboard.

Once you have all the ingredients, craft the Translation Machine at any Crafting Station in the Valley. It is found under the "Functional Items" tab in the Crafting Station menu.

Answer The Translation Machine's Questions

Give the Translation Machine to Belle. She finds that it requires the answers to several questions in order to start working properly. The correct answers are as follows:

  • Who is the bravest horse of them all? Phillipe (the name of Maurice and Belle's horse in Beauty and the Beast)
  • What is the perfect time to learn about someone's real identity in a story? During Chapter 3 (From the song "Belle" from Beauty and the Beast - "Here's where she meets Prince Charming / but she won't discover that it's him 'til Chapter 3")
  • A majordomo under an Enchantress's spell would turn into what? A clock (References the character Cogsworth the Clock from Beauty and the Beast)
This translates a whole sentence from the Mysterious Book. It reads: "I am Dreamlight Valley's best mystery solver."

Belle tells you that she plans to translate the rest of the Mysterious Book and then tell you what it says when she is finished. You will learn more about the Mysterious Book in Belle's next Friendship Quest, unlocked at Level 7, but for now, the quest "Breaking the Code" is complete!
