Stakeholder engagement is one of the 19 issues defined in the IAEA Milestones Approach, a structured methodology for the development of infrastructure for a new or expanding nuclear power programme. Stakeholder engagement is also one of the key requirements for the development of a national infrastructure for the uranium production cycle and radioactive waste management, including disposal, as well as a key element in projects for the decommissioning of nuclear facilities, environmental remediation, and nuclear site repurposing.
The IAEA has developed a set of activities aimed at building stakeholder engagement capacity in Member States, including technical meetings, workshops, training courses, publications and e-learning material. Building on that experience and in response to increasing Member States’ demand for support in this area, the IAEA established the Stakeholder Engagement Advisory Service for Nuclear Power Programmes.
SEAS missions are conducted upon official request from a Member State. Requests should be transmitted to the IAEA Deputy Director General, Head of the Department of Nuclear Energy.
