Bio
My grandparents, Thomas Edward Hill and Mary LaVinnie Springer lived across the dirt road from the Woodland school. I went through most of the second grade in that school though we had moved to Mobile, AL when I was about 2 yrs old.
The old house is still standing, or it was when I went back for the fist time since the second grade in 1995. I knew the turnoff as soon as I saw it! It had not changed a bit.
Mama (my g.mother) had a stroke in the late 40's and they had to move to Mobile where their two daughters lived. Papa died in 1951 of a heart attack. Mama died in 1956 of heart failure.
My grand parents on dad's side lived in Webster Co. Frank Carlisle had a couple of country stores, one in Mantee and one in Woodland. He also farmed, and served as Justice of the Peace until his death in 1917.
I grew up in Mobile, married an A.F. guy, then was gone for many years all over the US. He died in 1979. I retired from the company I had gone to work with afterward and moved back to Mobile where my only sibling, a brother still lived, Robert E. Carlisle. He died Feburary 3rd of 2011 and is buried in the Biloxi, MS National Cemetery.
I have a son in Jesup, GA; one in Jacksonville, Fl; and my youngest son lives with me.
