The funeral for Michael David May, 54, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Seventh-day Adventist Church in Okeene. The Revs. Dan Jensen and Henry Reid will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery at Hitchcock. Arrangements are by Wilkinson Mortuary. He was born Oct. 23, 1948, in Watonga to David Stanley and Thelma Greene May and died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003. He graduated from Watonga High School and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, receiving a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and a master of education degree in mathematics. He received his secondary, principal and superintendent certification from the University of Oklahoma and was superintendent of schools at Watonga at time of his death. He was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Okeene, Watonga Lions Club and CCOSA where he was on the board of directors. He coached little league baseball and was a 4-H sponsor for Philmont backpacking trips. He served on several state department of education committees and was a volunteer firefighter for Hitchcock and Calumet. He was president of Watonga Former Student Association and served on board of directors for Watonga Chamber of Commerce. He began his career in education teaching at Watonga, then became dependent principal at Hitchcock and moved to superintendent of Calumet Public Schools. He was superintendent of Watonga Public Schools for 11 years, serving a total of 33 years in education. He and Mary Hinkle were married June 11, 1970 at Watonga. Surviving are his wife, Mary of the home; one son Steven of Bentonville, Ark., one daughter, Michelle May of Stillwater; one brother, Bruce of Altus; one sister Annette Flaming of Stillwater and his mother Thelma Kautz of Watonga. He was preceded in death by his father, one son, one sister and stepfather.
