Fix USB Drivers Problems

USB Drivers problems are quite common and many of these problems are easily fixed.

Common USB Driver errors you may come across are ones such as USB Device not recognized“, “This Device Cannot Start” or “No USB Drivers Installed”. There are many different error codes and messages that you may come across but basically you need to work out why your USB Device is not working.
(追記) (追記ここまで)
To do so, it is best to start ruling out the most simple causes.

Damaged USB port

Occasionally the USB port itself may become damaged, to rule this out as the cause of your problems, try the device in another port to check if the outcome is the same.

No power to the USB device

Ensure that your USB device, such as a camera or USB mouse, has adequate battery power

If you have checked that neither of the above are the cause of your USB problems, the next thing to do is restart your computer. Do not skip this step as it is very often successful in fixing USB Drivers problems.

Restart your computer

This step involves more than just rebooting your computer. You will need to shut down your computer and disconnect all power supply. If you are using a laptop then you should also remove the battery.

The reason for disconnecting all power to your computer is to ensure that the motherboard is reset. Even when a computer is shutdown, the motherboard still receives some power so it is essential you disconnect all power and leave it off for about 10 minutes or so.

When you restart your computer, check to see if your USB device is working. If not, then the problem is most likely a USB Driver problem.

If you know the device that is causing the driver errors, you can try to download updated drivers from the manufacturers website. If these drivers are not available or you do not feel comfortable updating them, you can use a Driver Update Tool.

Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Device Manager

right-click your USB device > click Properties

go to the General tab > look at Device status box to see if there are any details provided

Post the details here and we can look into this further for you

hi! need help.just bought my first usb memory stick.everytime I put anything on it and delete from my computer it also delete what I put on memory stick and vice versa. even if I eject the stick before I delete from my computer as soon as I put it back in it automatically deletes and mirrors exactly whats on my computer. as anyone else had this problem?

  11. DriverAdvice says

Hi Des – can you try a test (I want to make sure the file is actually copying to the USB and not just a link to the original file) – copy a file to the USB as normal and then try to view it on a different machine if you have one available (actually open the file rather than just view it) – then delete the original file from your compluter BEFORE re-inserting the memory stick, can you let me know what happens in this case?

  12. des says

hi! usb memory had files on from laptop when I tried it on old computer running xp and it worked as it should but for some unknown reason if I delete a file on my laptop running windows 7 it automatically deletes it on usb and vice versa, any help would be gratefully received. thanks

  13. driverhelper says

are the 2 machines networked? Did this replicate when you tried it again as I assume what you are describing is what happened originally?

  14. Drivers help says

Hi Des – I just mean are the machines linked in anyway – through a home wifi network or physical cable. I ask because it sounds like some software (could be dropbox) is setup to sync your files between your laptop and usb stick – can you check your system for any syncing software like this and also have a look at the settings in dropbox to see if you can uncheck syncing of the USB and then test again

  15. des says

Yes it did replicate as originally stated. Not sure what you mean about networked as you can tell i’m not computer buff.thanks

  16. DriverAdvice says

Hi Des – something is definitely syncing by the sound of it – was there software installed for the USB stick itself?

  17. des says

Hi!no it wasn’t synced as far as i understand as soon as i plug it in the computer recognised it had found it and it was ready to use.

  18. des says

Sorry i cant as its one i bought from ebay and it doesn’t state make and model. All i can tell you is its states thats its 64gb plug and play supports windows 7 compatible with usb 1.1/2.0

Hi; just tried to upgrade my USB and audio device driver software; which failed and now all my USB ports are disabled. As such I can not get into my PC anymore. Any idea on how to enable my USB Ports again (without any PS2 or comparable ports to connect external input devices) Cheers

  20. Daniel says

Bought this product to locate all the drivers for Windows XP Pro 32 bit on a Lenovo X61. Specifically to install the drivers for the sram card reader. Alas the automated process failed on Video, Audio and SRAM reader. So there was a waste of 30 USD.

  21. DriverAdvice says

Hi Daniel – when you say failed do you mean it did not find the Drivers? Can you give me a bit more detail so I can look into it?

My USB ports are losing poet before the Win XP operating system loads. Possibly Malware, or maybe a virus. I’ve tried to uninstall the drivers using MiniXP but this didn’t work. Any help or suggestions would be of good use right now?
