Edward Moore "Ted" Kennedy (1932-2009) was an American attorney and politician who served in the Senate for 47 remarkable years. A member of the prominent Kennedy Family, his father was Joseph P. Kennedy, and his older brothers were war hero Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., President John F. Kennedy, and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy.
I think it’s an extremely sweet nickname for Theodore. The only problem is that ALL of the associations that come to mind are negative ones: Ted Bundy, Ted Cruz, Ted Kaczynski, Ted Nugent.
Captain Edward "Ted" Thompson was in command of Alaska Airlines flight 261, an ill-fated flight from Vallarta, Mexico, to Seattle. Parts of the MD-83's horizontal stabilizer were worn out due to improper maintenance from the airline, and despite his and the first officer's best efforts, the plane went down near southern California.
This is probably what my son, Theodore will be called as a teenager. We are currently calling him Teddy, but that may become too childish at some point. I think Ted is a nice nickname, but definitely not a legal name. It's also nice to see young men with simple, strong, classic names likes these rather than the trendy garbage parents are naming their boys nowadays.
Ted Fujita (born Tetsuya Fujita) was a prominent Japanese-American severe storms researcher. His research at the University of Chicago on severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and typhoons revolutionized the knowledge of each. He is recognized as the discoverer of downbursts and microbursts and also developed the Fujita scale, which differentiates tornado intensity and links tornado damage with wind speed.Fujita's best-known contributions were in tornado research; he was often called "Mr. Tornado" by his associates and by the media. In addition to developing the Fujita scale, Fujita was a pioneer in the development of tornado overflight and damage survey techniques, which he used to study and map the paths of the two tornadoes that hit Lubbock, Texas on May 11, 1970. He established the value of photometric analysis of tornado pictures and films to establish wind speeds at various heights at the surface of tornado vortices. Fujita was also the first to widely study the meteorological phenomenon of the downburst, which can pose serious danger to aircraft. As a result of his work, pilot training worldwide routinely uses techniques he pioneered to provide instruction to students.
Is a masculine given name. It comes from the Greek name Θεόδωρος (Theodōros) meaning "god-given" (from the Greek words θεός, (theos) "god" and δώρον (dōron) "gift").[1] The name was borne by several prehistoric figures, such as Theodorus of Samos and Theodorus the Atheist, but gained popularity due to the rise of Christianity (its meaning having been adapted to "God-given".)
Ted Bundy was a serial killer, Ted Kaczynski was the Unabomber, Ted Kennedy left a woman to drown at Chappaquiddick... between those three associations, this name is pretty much ruined for me.
There is a movie called "Ted", directed by Seth MacFarlane. The character Ted is a wisecracking, pot smoking teddy bear who lives with his best friend john (Mark Wahlberg).
I hate this name with a flaming passion. I can't stand Theodore either, but that old-fashioned and pompous-sounding name is always shortened to this annoying little name that sounds quite youthful and still like the name of an old guy, paradoxically. This name isn't exactly associated with respectable people either. There's the serial killer creep Ted Bundy, but I don't actually mind THAT as much as I do mind the fact that this is the name of the utterly obnoxious, misogynous, racist idiot Ted Nugent. I say this name should just be buried already. The full form Theodore sounds too officious and pompous, whereas Ted doesn't sound very mature.
Not only is Ted the name of Nymphadora Tonks' father in the Harry Potter series, but *SPOILERS AHEAD* it is also the name of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora's son in Deathly Hallows, named after his newly late grandfather.
This name is borne by Keanu Reeves' character Ted "Theodore" Logan in 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure' and the sequel, 'Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.'
