I've always admired Ivan, although I suppose much of that is because of how much it reminds me of the name Evan. Much like Evan, Ivan is short, simple and straightforward. It's an all around classic and timeless name. Versatile as well as it works both as an English name and as a slavic one, along with other various countries as well.
Who cares that the name is an anagram for the word vain? I certainly don't. There are worse things a name can be close to.
Ivan from Alien Stage :3.

I think Ivan is a beautiful name. It sounds gentle and strong at the same time, it is classy and it ages flawlessly. I think it is a wonderful name.
If I had a male child I might name them this because I love the nickname for it (Vanya) I think it is so cute!
How is this name also used in Italian? Italian names can't end in consonants, can they?
Personally, I think Ivan is a cool name.

This name isn't used very much in Australia anymore, especially around the Sydney area (look up Ivan Milat if you're curious). It's pronounced "eye-van" here and doesn't have many nicknames. Even so, I think it's a nice alternative to plain old "John".

This name doesn't look bad, but it feels so common and overused, because in many countries this is one of the most popular and used names for males. Name is stable, pretty strong, but also a little bit boring.

I wonder about the Ukrainian pronunciation? I keep listening to this name's Ukrainian pronunciation on wikitionary and on forvo and it is a more open "v" but still much more of a "v" sound than a "w".
The letter "в" is usually more like a "v" in Ukrainian, unless it's at the end or before a consonant, which isn't the case here, so I don't see why it would switch to [w] here.

This has always been one of my favorite Russian names, even though it's so common over there. It sounds so romantic, elegant, and dignified when pronounced Ee-VAHN; the Anglo pronunciation EYE-vin just throws it away and makes it sound ugly. It also doesn't hurt that there were a number of Tsars (mostly in the Ryurikovich Dynasty, the pre-Romanov ruling family) named Ivan, including Tsar Ivan III, known as Ivan the Great, one of Russia's greatest rulers ever.
